Blood Brothers - Year 10

The Drama students of Year 10 have been working on Blood Brothers by Willy Russell in lesson and for their homework. The actors have had to learn lines for several different scenes, Technicians have had to plot lighting plans for several different scenes and costume designers have had to design one costume for one character at a set period in Blood Brothers.

Why is this play so important?

In Year 11, and as a mock in Year 10, the students will all sit a written exam with an unseen extract from Blood Brothers.  They will all have to design a costume or set design and answer performance questions on characterisation within the unseen scene and within the context of the entire play.

The pupils will also take a scripted unit in Year 11 where scripts will be allocated and the pupils will perform two scenes from that script.  The actors will learn lines and portray a character, technicians create lighting plots demonstrating their understanding of the play and scenes, and costume designers will design two costumes for one character also showing their understanding of the play, character and scene.

This performance in Year 10 was an opportunity for pupils to have a thorough understanding of the play ready for the written exam, but also understand the pressures of learning lines and performing, plotting LX and creating costumes where required.

The pupils worked hard and there are some excellent examples of talent which I hope to see grow and develop in time for all their Year 11 drama assessments.

Excellent performances by Amy McEvoy, Joel Jackson and Isabel Parnaby!
