Ex-student on an Apprenticeship Scheme visits HGSS Students
Today we had the pleasure of welcoming an ex-student to talk about his experience of Apprenticeships. Kieran was a HGSS Sixth Former from 2014 – 2016. He studied A Level Geography, BTEC Science and BTEC Computing. Kieran applied to university, receiving offers, but decided that it wasn’t for him and that an Apprenticeship was the way forward.
Apprenticeships involve part of the week at a College of Higher Education studying for qualifications such as degrees or GNVQs, while also working and learning the hands on skills of the profession in place of employment.
Kieran wanted to progress to higher qualifications, but didn’t want the debts that often come with it, but instead comes with a salary and a course funded by his employer.
He is now a Computing Apprentice at a very prestigious company, working in varied and fascinating environments, and is really enjoying the challenges that it presents. The Sixth Form really benefitted from his experience, and hopefully his recommendation will spur on our Year 13s who are currently looking for Apprenticeships.
