The Music Department aims to provide an interesting, vibrant and academically rigorous experience for all our students.
The Music Department is proud of the achievement of its students, last summer we achieved 90% 9 - 5 and we are committed to fostering a love of our subject through the enthusiasm and expertise of our staff. At the heart of our curriculum is an emphasis on creativity and performance.
We have had 3 year of 100% Distinction* at KS5.
Music is about making and listening to music. All year groups cover performing, composing, and listening to a wide variety of music styles: popular music, world music, and classical music.
A Culture of Performance
HGSS is proud to present a minimum of 3 concerts a year and all students are welcome to perform. We have many peripatetic teachers coming into school to deliver lessons on all instruments.
Music is a busy Department when it comes to extra-curricular activity. We have a keyboard club, Wind Band, Rock School, School Band, Senior Choir and Choir. All these group are well attended and growing from strength to strength each week! Everyone is welcome to join a group. There is something for everyone.
Music Learning Leaders
HGSS is honoured to have very talented musicians in school who not only offer excellent skills within the groups but are able to develop their musicianship by leading groups such as Wind Band and keyboard club, as well as having valued roles back stage during the concert.
